It’s a quiet week  for beer events, as we let the dust of New Year’s revelry settle before taking on the New Year in beer. A few events will likely pop up as the week progresses, so check back (or just subscribe already) to see updates on the D.C. Beer Events Calendar.

Tonight, take the Beerspotter’s advice and enjoy some low-alcohol session ales. Several including Flying Dog Pale Ale and Stone Levitation will be on special for $4 at RFD.

Beginning Monday, Room 11 will have a very special keg for this week’s guest tap, Jolly Pumpkin Noel de Calabaza. The holidays are over, but that is no reason to miss out on this delicious, dark 9%-abv Christmas beer from Michigan.

On Tuesday, head to ChurchKey or Rustico Ballston for a sneak peek of Our Side, a collaboration beer from gypsy brewers Brian Strumke of Stillwater Artisanal Ales in Baltimore and Mikkel Borg Bjergsø of Mikkeller in Denmark. The idea for the beer, a hybrid of Stillwater’s Stateside Saison and Mikkeller’s Stateside IPA, came after the two nomadic brewers met and discovered that their first beers shared the same name. According to the beer’s label, Our Side is “packed full of piney, resinous hops and backed by the esters of a farmhouse yeast strain.” See for yourself and let Stumke know what you think. He will be at ChurchKey with four different casks of Our Side, one regular, one dry-hopped with Simcoe hops, one dry-hopped with Columbus, and one on French Oak.
