H Street NE newcomer Smith Commons, only open a few weeks, got some major front-and-center publicity on Thursday night within D.C.’s local political circles. Mayor Vince Gray endorsed Sekou Biddle, recently appointed by the D.C. Democratic State Committee to fill a D.C. Council vacancy, for the upcoming special election for the seat.

It was “packed to the gills,” tweeted The Washington Post‘s Mike DeBonis. So, the Biddle fest with the mayor was certainly good exposure for new three-level restaurant and bar, formerly a carpet warehouse.
