Local barbecue lovers are out in full force with week for Meat Week D.C., part of a larger national celebration of all things meat in various cities. Last night, participants were at American Ice Co. on U Street NW.

In the coming days, participants will be sampling barbecue from Capital Q in Chinatown, Rocklands Barbeque & Grilling in Glover Park, the yet-to-open Pork Barrel in Del Ray and the PORC food truck.

This year is special. According to the Meat Week folks:

Last year’s Snowmagedon/Snowpocalpyse forced the cancellation of our highly anticipated trip to Mr. P’s Ribs (and Seafood). This year, we’re putting Mr. P’s back on the schedule and getting our meat sweat on in a NE Safeway parking lot come rain or shine.

Here’s Tim Carman‘s take on Mr. P’s.
