The last time I was at a Bojangles was in February in the exurbs of Raleigh, N.C., on a Sunday. Since Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays, Bojangles’ drive-through queue was long, packed with biscuit-seeking after-churchgoers. In the Carolinas, in the heart of Bojangles country, this is not an uncommon occurrence.
On Thursday, Bojangles opened in the food court of D.C.’s Union Station, a place known for its queues. And, lo and behold, the new Bojangles has already attracted a long line! I made a quick pit stop before my 5 p.m. departure on the Acela and got my Cajun chicken biscuit combo in under five minutes, ate my meal in under three minutes, and had enough time to get a decent position in line for the train.
From past experience, I know that the greasy goodness of Bojangles and leave a fried-type odor that can linger for a car trip, so I avoided bringing a bag of Bojangles on the train out of courtesy. But I know that on future Amtrak trips on the Northeast Corridor, the temptation of bringing Bojangles on board will be hard to resist.
