Taxes: The cost of purchasing alcohol in Maryland is poised to increase. The state’s General Assembly passed legislation on Monday night that would raise state taxes on beer, wine, and liquor from 6 percent to 9 percent. Assuming that Gov. Martin O’Malley signs the bill, the new taxes would go into effect on July 1. [WBJ, Gazette]
