Here is the week in beer, just in time for your July 4th weekend hair-of-the-dog fix. Check out my notes below or click on any event in the D.C. Beer Events Calendar above for more details.
LAGERHEADS PICK: On Wednesday, the Capitol City Brewing Company brewpub at Postal Square, which will be closing its doors for good after next Monday, is having a patio party featuring the last cask of beer made at the location. Brewer Micah Krichinsky will be tapping a cask of Pale Rider Ale that has ginger, cumin and fresh mint. The party starts at 6 p.m. with Capitol City’s full food and beer menu available on the patio. Pints from the cask will be $3.
Tuesday is a busy night. For starters, RFD has all Belgian drafts on special for $5 a pour from 3 p.m. to close. The list tonight includes the rich, matly St. Bernardus Abt 12, a personal favorite, and the hoppy Houblon Chouffe, perhaps a more refreshing and appropriate choice for summer.
Also on Tuesday at 3 p.m., Mad Fox Brewpub in Falls Church will tap their first fruit beer, Strawberry Blonde. The new summer seasonal, as the name implies, is a light, refreshing Belgian-style blonde ale brewed with strawberries.
Later on Tuesday, ChurchKey is hosting a draft and cask night featuring beers from Moylan’s Brewery of California. Starting at 6 p.m., three casks will be tapped, including Ryan O’Sullivan’s Imperial Stout, Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale, and Chelsea Moylan’s Porter (which will also be available on draft for those interested in a side-by-side comparison). The other brews on tap are Nor Cal IPA, Danny’s Irish Red Ale, Orange & Black Congrats Ale, and Dragoon’s Dry Irish Stout.
Don’t be bummed that most of the events are on one night this week. For the entire month of July, all three Pizzeria Paradiso locations (Dupont Circle, Georgetown, and Old Town Alexandria) will be pouring nothing but India Pale Ales on draft. More on this fantastic IPA fest later. In the meantime, don’t forget about Paradiso’s half-price draft happy hour which runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at each location’s bar every Tuesday and Wednesday and is a great opportunity to take in some hoppy treats this week.
