Food blogger Julie Powell of Julie & Julia fame

An interesting survey at District365 finds that it’s mostly ladies who are writing D.C.-area food blogs.  And by most, we’re talking 93.87 percent of the online sites included in the poll. And the survey says? They’re young, they’re educated and they’re taking over. Study author Rohan notes: “I wouldn’t be surprised if this partially explains the rise in Organic, Vegan, Whole Foodlike spots and the fall of hot dog joints in the city.  Okay, the second one isn’t exactly true, but if it does happen, we know who is to blame.”

Altogether, the survey estimates that these blogs collectively account for about 134,000 readers monthly. And since the only thing more persuasive than word of mouth these days is an online review, maybe it’s not too far-fetched to think that these ladies will hold actual sway.
