Here’s a new video of Manuel Olivera, co-owner of the popular Fast Gourmet at Lowest Best Price Gas—home of the belly-busting chivito (City Paper‘s 2011 pick for D.C.’s “Best Uruguayan Sandwich“)—explaining the “crazy” concept of serving good food in a gas station and how the neighborhood’s “collage of cultures” sets the tone for a menu spanning the Middle East, South and Latin America as well as American classics. “It’s like an international dining room,” he says. With the added benefit of regular unleaded priced under $4 per gallon! And ethics to boot: “We’re trying to become a foodie eco-friendly business,” Olivera says. “We don’t promote it because I think that’s more like a social responsibility.”
