Goodbye, bay windows. Hello, French doors.
Neighborhood blog The Hill Is Home reports on the proposed renovations to historic Capitol Hill watering hole Hawk ‘n’ Dove. New owner Xavier Cervera presented his plans to a committee of the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission 6B on Tuesday.
Among the planned changes: (a) upstairs rooms, which Cervera describes as “scary…no light, no windows,” will be turned into an open mezzanine with new windows looking out on Pennsylvania Avenue; (b) the big sign out front will be replaced with something smaller; (c) the under-21 crowd will no longer be welcome; and (d) Cervera might install a brick oven for pizza and sandwiches.
But don’t expect much fancier fare than decent bar food. “Reports of it being a bistro are incorrect,” according to Cervera. “It’s a bar, and I’m very much a saloon guy.”
