Get out your lederhosen and dirndls and polka on over the bridge! Over the next week, Northern Virginia will be the site of two immense Oktoberfest celebrations. This Saturday marks the 12th annual Capitol City Brewing Company Mid-Atlantic Oktoberfest in Shirlington. Next Saturday, Rustico in Alexandria will host its annual outdoor Oktoberfest block party. Both festivals will have over 50 draft beers and an interesting variety of food, both true to the theme and not.
Capitol City’s fest will feature 65 different breweries pouring a variety of beer, primarily American crafts from near and far. Admission includes ten tickets for 4-ounce samples for $25, with additional drink tickets costing $1 each. The event is free for anyone to attend but not drink. (Sounds like torture!) The event features more than 30 local food and business vendors and an authentic German band. More details, including the full brewery list, after the jump.
Rustico’s beer list is different from past Oktoberfests in that it includes about 100 Autumnal beers organized by type, including some pretty far-out rare offerings from Europe. (Check out the brewery list below but get the full beer details in my D.C. Beer Events Calendar). In addition to traditional American and German festbiers, there will be pumpkin ales, other fall seasonals, and American fresh-hop ales brewed with hops delivered within hours of harvest. Prices range from $3 to $9 for food and $4 to $10 for beer. One-dollar tickets will be sold at the door for beer, food, activities and other amusements.
