Online reservation site Open Table has announced its 2012 Diners’ Choice Award winners for the 100 most romantic restaurants in the U.S., as determined through some five million reviews from its registered members. D.C. has but one lonely representative on the list: Plume at the Jefferson Hotel, presumably bolstered in the rankings by its close proximity to private rooms for post-dinner trysts. Breaking down the rest of the results by genre: French, Italian and fondue restaurants seemed to do quite well, particularly various locations of the cheesy chain Melting Pot. That includes the one in Columbus, Ohio, where a much younger Y&H did, in fact, spend one special champagne-soaked Valentine’s Day with his future bride more than a decade ago. (See photo.) Man, have our tastes changed for the better, both in terms of restaurant choices and fashion. (A white concert t-shirt, Shott? Really?)
What’s your favorite dimly lit D.C. dining destination for a little noshing and canoodling?
