Those of you looking to cleanse your arteries after last week’s big barbecue bash known as D.C. Meat Week now have the perfect opportunity to do so: D.C. Meat-Free Week starts Monday. “Ideally, it’s a chance for non-vegans to come out and try really great vegan food and a chance for the restaurant community to highlight what they’re doing in vegan cuisine,” says organizer Amber McDonald. The now third-annual event kicks-off tonight with its own barbecue party at Sticky Fingers in Columbia Heights—-this one substituting seitan in place of pork, naturally. Two events on the agenda, a vegan cooking class and four-course dinner hosted by Flying Dog Brewery, are already sold out. But there’s plenty to keep local veg heads busy (and full). Amateur shutterbugs, for instance, can enter to win a photo contest. And even omnivores may find something to like at the Feb. 12 “Tweat-up.” “That one would be a great event for people who are veg curious,” says McDonald. “You can meet people who are veg friendly, but you don’t have to commit to a whole meal. There will be appetizers and whiskeys to try.”
