Thinking about happy hour? Here’s a good one: Starting at 5 p.m. tonight, The Big Hunt is tapping the latest batch of brew from D.C.-based producer 3 Stars. This one’s a collaboration with Baltimore-based Oliver Ales, where the actual brewing took place (3 Stars’ own facility in D.C.’s Takoma neighborhood is still a work in progress). Called “B.W. Rye #3,” the Belgian-inspired farmhouse ale is the third beer in a series named after the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. According to the brewers, this session beer (only 5.8 percent alcohol by volume) has a healthy dose of hops and a lingering spicy bitterness from the rye.
At the Big Hunt, the new brew will be available on draft, as well as in a special cask conditioned with Tettnanger hops and rose hips (for Valentine’s Day, no doubt). 3 Stars’ Dave Coleman and Mike McGarvey and Oliver Ales brewer Stephen Jones will also be sharing a rare keg of B.W. Rye #2, their rye porter, aged in Wasmund’s rye whiskey barrels.
