Tonight: After a short winter hibernation, popular 14th Street barbecue joint and beer garden Standard fires up the smokers again this evening. Chef and co-owner Tad Curtz has big plans for new menu items later into the spring season—-stuff like lamb shoulder, cornish game hens, and crispy cheeks. But, for now, he’ll be barbecuing the same tasty style of brisket and pulled pork that made the airy patio a ‘cue hound haven last year. Arguably the best in the District last year, the brisket sandwich definitely doesn’t suck. The gate opens at 5 p.m. sharp.
Coming up: the monthly pop-up “H Street Bakes” returns to The Big Board on Sunday, offering adult-themed Crunkcakes, as well as other sweet treats. Also on Sunday: The Passenger hosts a boozy fundraiser to benefit breast cancer research.
