After a splashy preview, which generated a ton of media coverage yesterday (read more here, here, here and here, among other places), celebrated D.C. chef José Andrés rolled out his once-secret food truck Pepe to the general public this morning.
At 11:31 a.m., team Andrés announced via Twitter that the truck would be parked outside the National Portrait Gallery in Penn Quarter at precisely 11:45 a.m.
Eleven customers were already standing in line when Y&H arrived on the scene at 11:53 p.m. And another seven were waiting on their orders. By 12:11 p.m., around the time Y&H finally placed an order, the line had grown to 21.
Six minutes later, when our food was ready, the line had added another seven patrons.
“We had a hard time choosing, it all looked so good,” says Erica Stanley, who alongside co-worker, Jessica Marcella, settled on butifarra burger.
