Back in November, Y&H special malt and hops correspondent Tammy Tuck reported that former Brasserie Beck GM Thor Cheston would be opening his own brewpub, possibly in Shaw or Bloomingdale. Today, the Post chimes in with an update on the project: “He’s got a name, Right Proper Brewpub. He’s got a partner, John Snedden of Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company. He’s got a potential location in the Shaw neighborhood (although he declines to name the exact site while lease negotiations are going on). He’s got a tentative opening date: late spring 2013.”

By the time the place is fully operational, Cheston is hoping he’ll also have the legal ability to sell his beer in growlers. So he’s circulating a petition to advocate a change in D.C. law to allow retailers and brewpubs like his to fill up the reusable containers. Currently, only local manufacturers like Chocolate City and DC Brau are authorized to fill growlers.

Cheston spoke out about the growler situation in detail during City Paper‘s “State of the Brewion” event at Bier Baron last October.
