A slew of D.C.’s best known chefs are joining forces tonight for a splashy charity event at the Liaison Hotel on Capitol Hill, hosted by two-time James Beard Award winner Art Smith of Art and Soul. “An Evening with Common Threads – Chefs Celebrating Children in the Kitchen” will feature the tasty creations of Citronelle‘s Michel Richard, Graffiato‘s Mike Isabella, Dino‘s Dean Gold, The Source‘s Scott Drewno, and Urbana‘s John Critchley, among others. Beyond the savory bites, scotch and whiskey tastings are on tap, too. Tickets are $150 per person. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Common Threads’ programs to teach kids how to prepare healthy and affordable meals. Get yours here.
Coming up: A week from this Sunday, on May 6, Black Jack‘s Jeff Black is challenging fellow toques Kyle Bailey of Birch & Barley and Adam Sobel of Bourbon Steak, among others, to a chicken-fried steak throwdown for charity. Tickets will be $35 and sold at the door. The price includes bites from Black’s brunch menu, including Eggs Pontchartrain, Gulf Coast po’boys and other stuff. Proceeds go toward building a new kitchen at Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex at Children’s National Medical Center. In other chicken-fried news that night, Cork Market will debut a monthly Sunday fried chicken and champagne dinner. The meal serves two and includes a half chicken and sides (think biscuits and asparagus salad), plus two glasses of sparkling wine, all for $75.
