Rumors have been circulating in the restaurant world for a couple months, and now it’s official: Casa Nonna will serve its last meal tonight. Washington Post critic Tom Sietsema broke the news via Twitter. Casa Nonna’s parent company ESquared Hospitality released this statement:

“It is with regret that we must share the decision to close Casa Nonna Italian Cucina in Washington, DC. Much hard work was put into this project and the ESquared team feels heavily about the decision. ESquared Hospitality got to know Washington, DC well when we opened BLT Steak in 2007, and quickly developed a great esteem and respect for the city and its exciting restaurant scene. We chose Washington as the location for our first Casa Nonna based on BLT Steak’s success in the city and unfortunately just did not have the response we had hoped for. We are grateful to Casa Nonna’s talented chef Amy Brandwein and continue to be impressed by her culinary talents and enthusiastic passion for her craft. As mentioned, we love this city and will continue to seek out opportunities within it.”

The restaurant’s New York location will remain open. Reached for comment, chef Amy Brandwein told Y&H: “I can’t really get into it right now. I’ve got to get through service tonight.”
