Earlier this week, Prince of Petworth reported that Tacos el Chilango is taking over the Italiano Cafe space at 1119 V St. NW. Y&H now learns that this will be the first brick and mortar restaurant for the owners of the Arlington-based food truck of the same name. It’s scheduled to open in about a month.
Viridiana Santacruz, daughter of co-owner Jesus Santacruz, says the restaurant will serve the same kind of tacos (think chorizo and tongue) as the truck, plus enchiladas, pozole soup, and other authentic Mexican fare. Santacruz says her father comes from Mexico City and “Chilango” is the slang term used to describe people from there.
