Current Sushi will serve its last spicy tuna roll today.
Co-owner David Karim says it’s become too hard for the Connecticut Avenue spot to be profitable as a sushi bar with the neighborhood’s high rent. He adds that he wants to focus on the upstairs lounge and rooftop patio, Rosebar, which will undergo renovations at the end of the summer.
The first floor space occupied by Current will be leased to a new tenant. Karim says there are “three solid companies” (two of which are restaurants) that are “very, very interested.”
The grim reaper of restaurants seems to be out in full force this week. Zola is closing on June 30 and Potenza on Aug. 18. Eater reports thatBuddha Bar has shuttered, and Capital Q BBQ will end its 15-year run on July 14. Not to mention several other closures Y&H reported on at the beginning of the month.
