The recently shuttered Fruit Bat on H Street NE will reopen as an ’80s-themed beer-and-video-games spot called Barcade on July 10.
Sound familiar? That’s because there’s already a chain of ’80s-themed beer-and-video-game bars called Barcade, with spots in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and Jersey City. The latter’s co-owners, Scott Beard and Paul Kermizian, tell Y&H they were unaware of the D.C. Barcade, and that it is not affiliated with their business, which opened in 2004. They also have the name trademarked. Erik Holzherr, the guy behind the D.C. Barcade, has not responded to calls or email.
We’ll update when we hear from him.
UPDATE: Kermizian says his trademark attorneys have sent Holzherr a cease and desist letter and are awaiting a response.
