The White House’s home brew recipe may not be a state secret for long.

A petition started on the White House website asks President Barack Obama‘s administration to release the recipe for its White House Honey Ale, which made headlines last week after the revelation that Obama stocked it aboard Ground Force One on his trip to Iowa.

Yesterday, Press Secretary Jay Carney tweeted that if the petition reaches 25,000 signatures by Sept. 17, the White House will release the recipe. As of this posting, the petition had fewer than 5,000 signatures.

The home-brewing exploits of White House chefs first came to light in March 2011 after the Obamas served the ale at a Super Bowl party. The beer is made with honey from the White House’s apiary and comes in light and dark varieties.
