Sunday’s flooding shut down pizzeria Menomale in the middle of service, causing the packed Brookland restaurant to cut service three hours early and remain closed on Monday. (It’s not open on Tuesdays.)
Co-owner Leland Estes tells Y&H that a drain behind the restaurant clogged due to all the debris floating in from the rain, and water overflowed into the eatery. He says he was bailing out water like a sailor in a sinking ship.
The good news is that Estes’ team cleaned up the place and damage is minimal. Menomale will reopen for business tomorrow at 5 p.m.
“The joys of small business,” Estes jokes.
