There’s a new Maddy on the loose, and she’s looking all shiny and new.

The gang behind Dupont Circle hangout Maddy’s Bar & Grille have put up pine walls and hung wrought-iron light fixtures at their new joint, Maddy’s Tap Room, located on the ground floor of 1100 13th St. NW. The restaurant plans to soft-open on Oct. 1.

The food is going to be what Maddy’s chef Carlos Gonzalez calls “Texican,” because he’s from Texas and he’s Mexican, but he insists he’s not doing Tex-Mex. (“No burritos.”) Instead, he says he’ll be combining the comforting flavors of home in unexpected ways. Gonzalez’s highlights include the chorizo burger with Oaxaca cheese and his mom’s chicken and corn tortilla casserole in a mushroom cream sauce. For the lunch crowd, something called the “Best Damn Hot Dog Ever” sounds like a dining challenge to be accepted.

Expect to see beer, beer, and more beer: 40 of them will be on tap (along with a selection of cans and bottles). The bar will also feature a high-end selection of bourbons, scotches, and whiskeys.

Cigar dinners are also in the works, and they’ll feature tasting menus paired with beers, capped off by scotch or whiskey that diners can savor with a cigar.
