The Dish: The Heart Attack Burger
Where to Get It: The Light Horse, 715 King St., Alexandria; (703) 549-0533; thelighthorserestaurant.com
Price: $17
What It Is: Two grilled cheese sandwiches serve as buns for an Angus beef patty topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and melted Monterey Jack, Swiss, and Cheddar cheeses.
What It Tastes Like: Like you’re too skinny. Delightfully coarse, the patty is so fresh and juicy you almost feel like you’re eating something healthy—at least until you taste the intense medley of cheeses. This is a burger that should be eaten with such abandon that you might as well stuff the side of fries in there, too.
History of the Dish: General manager and partner Dave Pressley thought it would be funny to combine a burger and a grilled cheese and see how many people would order it. The answer? “We sell five or six a day,” Pressley grins.
How to Eat It: Roll up your sleeves, plant both feet firmly on the floor, and unhinge your jaw. This one’s a real workout.
