Former Shaw’s Tavern general manager Reza Akhavan has plans to open an upscale casual restaurant focused on local, seasonal ingredients at 917 5th St. NW this March.

Although a liquor license notice lists the restaurant’s name as Success (as reported earlier by Prince of Petworth), Akhavan says that is not the name; he hasn’t decided what to call the eatery yet. He also does not have a chef or menu worked out, but he says the food will have European and Mediterranean influences.

“I really want to focus on local farms and fresh ingredients and have a healthier menu,” Akhavan tells Y&H. “Not because it’s the trend, but because it’s what I like.”

Akhavan envisions a relatively small menu withhalf a dozen appetizers, five to six entrees, and some bar snacks. The price point for entrees will likely be between $17 and $25. There will also be 12 taps for beer plus wine and cocktails.

The 85-seat spot (including bar seating) will have a simple “industrial” interior design. Further down the line, Akhavan hopes to open a roof deck.
