Joey Belcher, the co-owner of H Street NE hot spot Sticky Rice, was found dead by police in his apartment Monday afternoon. He was 37.

Officer Tisha Gant, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police Department, confirmed that police responded to a report of an unconscious adult male on the 200 block of I Street NE around 3:28 p.m. Monday. So far, the cause of Belcher’s death hasn’t been determined. His body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Belcher and co-owner Jason Martin opened Sticky Rice on H Street NE in 2008. The sushi and tater tot spot was one of the first restaurants to help kickstart the corridor’s revitalization.

Belcher was also a partner in U Street corridor restaurant 1905 and H Street’s Dangerously Delicious Pies. He and Martin alsolaunched a food truck called Peanut Butter Jelly Time, which shuttered over the summer.
