Remember the ice cream sandwich bicycles launching this spring? Well, they’ve just been one-upped.
Childhood friends and D.C. natives Ed Cornell and Patrick Griffith will launch a motorcycle with a sidecar slinging gourmet ice cream sandwiches called Milk Cult at the end of the month.
Cornell previously taught English in Indonesia, where he commuted by motorcycle and saw many food carts built off motorcycles. Griffith previously worked on the Takorean food truck. They say their vehicle, which they’ve nicknamed “The Heifer,” will operate just like a food truck, traveling around the city and tweeting its location. They say they weren’t aware of Cream Cycle (the ice cream sandwich bikes) when they began conceptualizing the idea.
Milk Cult, which works out of Union Kitchen, will offer a classic chocolate wafer and vanilla ice cream sandwich as well as two chocolate chip cookie sandwiches—one with vanilla bean ice cream, the other with salted butter caramel ice cream. There will also be a corn flake cookie with honey drizzle-milk ice cream and a ginger spice cookie with buttermilk lemon zest ice cream.
Cornell and Griffith are Breaking Bad fans, so down the line, they plan to offer the “Malter White,” consisting of vanilla malt ice cream and a “trailer trash cookie” with bits of potato chips, pretzels, and toffee. Prices will likely be about $4 or $5. On top of that, Milk Cult will also sell cold-brewed ice coffee.
If you want to get a taste of the sandwiches before Milk Cult hits the roads, you can try them out at Capitol Hill Books, where they’ll be doing an event on April 13 at 6 p.m.
