Add one more name to the growing list of taco spots around the 14th Street corridor. Boston-based celebrity chef Michael Schlow is opening Tico in the Louis at 14 development from JBG Companies just south of U Street NW. The restaurant, whose menu is inspired by Schlow’s travels to Mexico, South America, and Spain, also has a location in Boston.

Schlow has several restaurants of different cuisines in the Boston area: modern French Radius, Mexican Barrio Cantina, and Italian eateries Via Matta and Alta Strada (which also has a location at a casino/resort in Connecticut). Schlow also appeared on season one of Top Chef Masters.

Tico will join a growing number of Mexican and taco spots on 14th Street. El Centro D.F. is just a block away, and Taqueria Nacional is coming to 1409 T St. NW this spring. There’s also Tortilla Coast in Logan Circle and Tacos El Chilango at 12th and V streets NW.

This won’t be Schlow’s only thumbprint on D.C. He’s developing the menu for Vida U Street’s penthouse pool.
