H &pizza will open its second location—simply called &pizza—at 1250 U St. NW on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The eatery also has a third location planned for the Monroe Street Market development in Brookland.
The newest location will be pretty similar to the original shop on H Street NE: Guests go through an assembly line to choose different crusts, sauces, cheeses, and other toppings. The space itself will pay homage to the U Street with black and white photos of neighborhood leaders and landmarks. There’s also a large brass ampersand, apparently a nod to the significance of jazz on U Street. &pizza will host the U Street All Stars jazz band on June 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 9 to 11 p.m.
&pizza is also asking the public to help design its new pizza box. Contestants can pick up blank boxes at either store, draw on top of them, and drop them back at the store by June 17. The winners, who will be announced June 24, will receive $200 and get their designs printed on 5,000 boxes.
