With temperatures hitting the mid-nineties this weekend, the only reasonable way to cope is to eat ice cream. Lots of it. Possibly for every meal.
Luckily, Sunday is National Ice Cream Day, meaning that creamy, frozen treats will be even more plentiful (and cheaper). Restaurant and others are offering special deals and events in honor of the holiday and throughout the month. Maybe that ice-cream-for-every-meal idea isn’t so far fetched, after all?
Uber Ice Cream App
Everywhere
No more waiting in agony for the sound of the ice cream truck jingle. For today only, the cabs-on-demand company will allow users to summon an ice cream truck straight to them. The service is $25 for five treats (King Cones, Chipwiches, Strawberry Shortcake pops, and red, white & blue pops), and the cost will be charged straight to your Uber account.
Sprinkles
3015 M St. NW
The Georgetown cupcake shop is baking “golden tickets” inside three cupcakes. If you bite into one, you’ll receive a Sprinkles ice cream shipment delivered to your door.
The Coupe
3415 11th St. NW
The Columbia Heights diner will serve up milkshakes and pie a la mode for $3.95 on Sunday.
BGR
1514 Connecticut Avenue NW
“Like” BGR on Facebook and get a coupon for half-off their milkshakes on Sunday.
Union Market
1309 5th St. NE
Seventeen of D.C.’s frozen treat aficionados will compete for the title of best scoop in the District this Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Attendees will be treated to free samples, as well as ice cream cooking demos, live music, and face painting. There’ll also be an ice cream eating contest for kids under age 12—brain freeze antidotes not included.
Dolcezza
Georgetown, Bethesda Row, Dupont Circle, and Fairfax locations
The schmancy gelateria is offering a buy one, get one half-off coupon all month long, although it’s redeemable only on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Dolci Gelati
7000 Carrol Ave, Takoma Park, MD
The gelato makers are promoting their new location with a series of weekly specials. We’ve missed National Sugar Cookie Day and Peach Ice Cream Day, but on Tuesday the cafe will offer free toppings all day long.
UPDATE:
Red Apron at Union Market
The sandwich shop and meat market debuts pastry chef Tiffany MacIsaac‘s gourmet soft-serve tomorrow. Flavors include Fruity Pebbles and yellow cake but expect future flavors like chamomile-peach and black tea.
