Today’s the big day for G sandwich shop from chef Mike Isabella. The 46-seat spot next to Kapnos on 14th Street NW opens at 11 a.m., serving chicken parm subs and spiced baby goat sandwiches.
Today only, all sandwiches will cost only $5 until 4 p.m., with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society’s Fit for Hope. Otherwise, the sandwiches range from $7 to $13. The sandwich menu is broken down into Italian classics (meatball sub), fresh and healthy (roasted cauliflower), pressed (Cubano panini), and wood-roasted (suckling pig). Another highlight will inevitably be the “Jersey Mac,” a play on McDonald’s Egg McMuffin with duck egg, house-made taylor ham, muenster cheese, and duck fat English muffins. Marinated vegetables ($3-4) like spiced beets and blistered peppers as well as soups, salads, and sweets are also available. Check out the full menu here.
Guests will have to wait until Aug. 3 for G to begin offering its evening tasting menu. The $40 prix-fixe Italian meal will feature antipasti, a pasta course, a meat, fish or vegetarian course, and dessert. Potential entrees include aged duck breast with beet panzanella or bread-crusted bass with smoked sunchokes and charred onion relish. There will also be a supplemental crudo offering (think smoked swordfish carpaccio or caviar) for two for $18. The tasting menu will be available Wednesday through Sunday only.
Beginning Aug. 11, Isabella will also host Sunday Gravy feasts (also $40 per person), which are meant to recreate his family’s traditional end-of-the-week feasts with dishes like calamari, Caesar salad, pasta with tomato sauce and meatballs, and pork shoulder.
