It seems the cronut craze has not just inspired knock-offs, but other hybrid desserts. A little more than a week ago, Eater informed us of Ted’s Bulletin‘s off-the-menu pop-tart ice cream sandwich, which Y&H hereby dubs the “popwich.” Now say hello to the doughnut ice cream sandwich. And please remain calm.

Two local eateries are offering this treat. Tomorrow, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken will introduce a raspberry verbena ice cream and passion fruit doughnut sandwich as well as a Brooklyn Roasters mocha java ice cream and chocolate doughnut sandwich. Limited quantities will be available for $5.25 after the lunch rush.

Meanwhile, Goodies Frozen Custard & Treats food truck also has its own version with vanilla custard and red velvet doughnut (see below). UPDATE: Goodies also allows patrons to make a sandwich with any of its other dozen doughnuts, including double chocolate, blueberry, sprinkles, and carrot cake. Optional toppings include chocolate syrup, caramel sauce, and fresh bananas. The sandwich is $8.

Now, the big question: What shall we name these Frankensteins of fried dough and sugar? The doughwich? The sandnut? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
