The owners of Heritage India have replaced Cafe Luna, their American/Italian spot at 1633 P St. NW, with their southern Indian restaurant, Malgudi. This is the second location for Malgudi, which is also in Glover Park. Both Malgudi locations adjoin Heritage India locations.
The owners were not immediately available to comment, but a glimpse at the menu reveals a large selection of vegetarian specialties, dosas, uttappam (a dosa-like pancake dish with ingredients cooked into the batter), and kothu poratta (a delicacy of “beaten” bread spiced with egg, meat, and a spicy sauce).
Malgudi’s version of bread pudding made Washington City Paper’s list of the 50 must-try dishes in the D.C. area this year.
UPDATE: Co-owner Mitul Tuli sends this email about the change:
We essentially changed for a newer concept…keeping in line with the increasing demand/ requests for more and vegetarian/vegan food. Its a concept that fitted the neighborhood too. Also Malgudi is essentially southern Indian food…where more than half the population is vegetarian…
