City Paper is not for tourists
Meridian Pint and Smoke and Barrel owner John Andrade will open a craft beer-heavy casual fine-dining restaurant at the Monroe Street Market development in Brookland next summer.
He tells Y&H the yet-unnamed spot will be in the same vein as Meridian Pint in terms of its look and food offerings. Meridian Pint chef David Shewmaker will oversee the “elevated pub” menu with burgers, salads, entrees, and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The 100 percent American beer list will include a strong local focus, Andrade says. It will be open for lunch and dinner.
The 4,200-square-foot space will be outfitted in a muted color scheme with exposed brick, distressed wood, a partially open kitchen, and booths, as well as outdoor seating.
Andrade says he looked for locations in Navy Yard, H Street NE, U Street NW, and beyond before settling on Brookland. “I’m strong believer in focusing on up and coming neighborhoods that have an unsatisfied demand,” he says. “The Brookland area seemed most suitable for what I bring to the table.”
