Love pickled herring? Now, you can drink it. Scandinavian Petworth eatery Domku relaunched its pickled herring martini last Tuesday. This curious cocktail came about five years ago when owner Kera Carpenter decided to marry the Scandinavian custom of eating pickled herring with shots of aquavit before a meal. But the drink disappeared from the menu after six months—until now.
The aquavit is made in-house with dill-infused vodka and a brine of onions and coriander seeds. It’s topped with pickled herring for a beverage that’s acidic, sweet, and savory. Pair it with the fried pickled herring, obviously. The martini is $9 and will be on the menu for at least the next six months.
