City Paper is not for tourists
Friday will be the last day for mac-and-cheese-slinging food truck CapMac. “We’re not saying goodbye, we’re saying ‘see you later,'” a message posted on the truck’s website reads. “We have our eyes set on new and opportunities in the future and we’ll be sure to keep everyone updated on our next move.”
Owner Brian Arnoff, who previously worked at Bourbon Steak, debuted the truck three years ago along with chef Victoria Harris. Arnoff tells Y&H that the decision to give up the truck was the culmination of a number of factors that added up over the years. “It’s a totally different game than what we got into, and things change and we’ve decided it’s not the thing we want to continue to pursue every day,” he says.
Arnoff wouldn’t reveal exactly what’s in store next, but he says he would like to eventually have a brick-and-mortar restaurant. “I have a background in upscale restaurants, and I would love to get back to that side of the business a little bit,” he says. Right now, though, there’s no lease or location.
This may not necessarily be the end of the CapMac truck either: Arnoff says he’s hoping someone will buy the truck and continue to sell mac-and-cheese. But that hasn’t happened yet.

This Friday, November 14th we will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary at the place it all started – Farragut Square. It’s a bittersweet day for us, because it will also be our last day of service. We cannot say thank you enough for supporting us throughout the years – our customers have been nothing short of inspiring. Thousands of the best the DMV has to offer pushed us to be better, try harder, and keep dreaming. Special thanks to our friends on “CapMac’s Wall of Fame” for their overwhelming support, and to the DMV Food Truck Association for all the support they have given us these last three years.
Thank you for allowing us to celebrate weddings, birthdays, baby showers, and all the other special occasions we were lucky to be a part of. To the students and faculty of George Washington University, we will never be able to adequately thank you for your unmatched loyalty. Thanks for being the best brand ambassadors a small business could ask for.
