The South’s contributions to great drinking go far beyond whiskey. At Derek Brown‘s newest Shaw bar, Southern Efficiency, you’ll also find another beloved beverage from below the Mason-Dixon line: Coca-Cola and peanuts.
“You mean, like, peanut-infused Coke?” I asked the bartender. (Hey, such are the times we live in.) Nope, the $5 drink is literally just a fistful of peanuts in a glass of Coke.
If you’re from the South, you know what I’m talking about. But why this delicious combination hasn’t reached the rest of us is beyond me. The peanuts float to the top so you can simultaneously sip and chew the sweet and salty concoction. If you need a break from bourbon, make this your go-to. But if you prefer your Coke spiked, try the smoked cola and white whiskey on draft ($7).
