Amsterdam Falafelshop is opening its second D.C. location on 14th Street NW this weekend. With an updated menu and three times the seating space as the chain’s original Adams Morgan restaurant, the franchise’s newest post is a bigger, shinier follow-up to its predecessor.
In addition to the falafel and toppings offered at the original Amsterdam Falafelshop on 18th Street NW, the 14th Street location will offer falafel bowls for customers who prefer a gluten-free meal.
Bar-hoppers and night owls will be happy to hear that the new falafel shop will operate under the same late-night hours as the 18th Street location. “We’re here for those who get out of the bars and clubs, but also to serve all those people who work in the restaurants here when they get out of work late,” says owner Dane Cherry.
Scott and Arianne Bennett, the husband-and-wife founders of the Amsterdam Falafelshop franchise, are excited to extend their business onto 14th Street 10 years after opening the original restaurant in Adams Morgan. “We love this area,” says Arianne Bennett. “It’s become the new corridor.”
The new space features the same wooden floors and red walls of the original spot but is considerably larger and has a few unique touches, like limited-edition Heineken guitars and the Bennetts’ own panoramic photos of Amsterdam, taken during one of their many trips to the city.
The Bennetts and Cherry plans to serve Dutch beer at the new location, but they are still in the process of getting a liquor license. Cherry is scheduled for an ABRA hearing on April 9th. Until then, customers can enjoy soft drinks with their falafel and fries.
The 14th Street Amsterdam Falafelshop will have a soft opening Saturday night at 10 p.m. and open for regular business on Sunday at 11 a.m.
