Props to The Examiner‘s Freeman Klopott for double-checking the Vincent Gray campaign’s claim that it was a campaign volunteer acting out of turn who sent out an e-mail fishing for disgruntled bureaucrats who had been fired by Mayor Adrian Fenty.
The e-mail asks for the disgruntleds to contact a Keith Childs, who campaign finance records filed last night say Gray paid $2,000 as a consultant. “Volunteer,” eh?
But technically, the Gray campaign appears to have been telling the truth. The e-mail itself was sent out by “Dr. Brown” (Great Scott!), and Gray spokesman Traci Hughes tells Klopott that Brown is, indeed, a volunteer. She adds that Childs works as a canvasser, not a consultant—no matter how they’ve got him listed on the reports.
