LL got a hot tip this afternoon that the Office of Campaign Finance had dragged Ron Moten in for a hearing on whether his numerous efforts (go-go concerts, songs, a music video, and a magazine) in support of Mayor Adrian Fenty‘s re-election campaign break city election laws.

LL first reported last Thursday  that Vincent Gray volunteer James Abely had filed a complaint with OCF, saying Moten’s extracurricular activities were part of the Fenty re-election campaign and needed to be identified as such. (Moten, if you don’t know, is the co-founder of Peaceoholics, a non-profit group that’s received millions from the city during Fenty’s term).

Sure enough, LL got to OCF’s office on the 4th floor of the Frank D. Reeves Municipal Building just in time to see Moten leaving with his attorney (whose name LL did not catch). Moten was mum on what happened in the hearing, saying only that “everything’s good.”  (Moten then got on the elevator, told one of the passengers she looked like Beyoncé, then upgraded that to say she looked better than Beyoncé). When LL tried to get more info out of Moten as he was leaving the Reeves Building, Moten said he’s currently not speaking to Washington City Paper because he feels insulted by this piece from last week, which reported that Peaceoholics haven’t been subjected to much oversight.

OCF spokesman Wesley Williams said Moten met with a staff member from the OCF’s general counsel, who investigates complaints. Williams said the meeting was not part of an investigation, but was a “show cause” hearing where Moten c0uld respond to the complaints made by Abely.

Stay tuned, as there will be more to this story one way or the other. Just don’t expect any final resolution before Sept. 14.
