If you haven’t heard already, go-go music, the most stigmatized genre in the District, has suddenly become a major political force. Mayor Adrian Fenty hopes to ride the conga-infused beat to victory in next week’s elections.

But not all go-go bands have warmed to the mayor’s “Go-Go 4 Fenty” campaign, and some even want to “salute” his opponent Vincent Gray. Housing Complex reporter Lydia DePillis spotted the sign pictured above as she was walking along the upper part of Georgia Avenue NW. The Unbreakable Band (UBB) has taken the opposite political stance of popular “grown and sexy” bands like Backyard Band and Suttle Thoughts, both heavy Fenty supporters.

We’ll see how go-go band politicking works out for the scene. With touchstones of black history and culture being taken over by the Tea Party, one never knows where it may lead. Can you say, “Go-Go 4 Glenn Beck?”
