LL has already written about former mayoral candidate Sulaimon Maurice Brown‘s strange denial of ever having a Maryland driver’s license, though state records suggest otherwise. After the story ran, Brown called LL’s boss to tell him “everything” in that post was wrong, but wouldn’t specificy what information was incorrect.
During Vincent Gray‘s victory party last Tuesday, Brown came up to LL, flashed his D.C. driver’s license, and gave LL a look that suggested he was thinking, “See? You were wrong.” But Brown wouldn’t let LL look at the license closely or take a picture of it. What that brief glimpse of a D.C. driver’s license was supposed to prove, LL isn’t sure.
Brown owning a D.C. driver’s license doesn’t answer why Maryland records show that a 6’3″, 170-pound Sulaimon Maurice Brown, born on July 31, 1970, had a Maryland driver’s license issued to him last summer. Or that a 1999 Mercedes is registered to Brown in Maryland, at the same address as the Maryland driver’s license.
Remember, when LL asked about those records, he got this response:
“No, I don’t have a driver’s license from Maryland, I can show you my identification, I have the District of Columbia identification. Even if—let’s say hypothetically—if that was true, which it’s not, there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s a difference between an address of record and your permanent address. There’s a big difference. But you know, it doesn’t matter. I can be like Michael Jordan, for instance, or Oprah Winfrey, and have property all over the country. Your address of record—you can have property and live anywhere you want or have vehicles anywhere you want—it doesn’t mean where you live is your address of record. And that’s the difference, and that’s the law.”
So nice try, Sulaimon, but if you want to prove to LL that the Maryland driver’s license doesn’t belong to you, then LL wants you to producethe “other” 6’3″ 170-pound Sulaimon Maurice Brown, who was also born on July 31, 1970.
