Ahh, the good old days. Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr. showed the above video to reporters last fall as proof of the good work that his nonprofit, Team Thomas, had done. Indeed, the video shows an Oct. 5, 2007, event at Langston Golf Course with plenty of District kids getting to experience the joys of golf.

The cast of characters in the video include Thomas, Council Chairman Kwame “Fully Loaded” Brown (then not yet fully loaded and not yet council chairman), Ward 3 Councilmember Mary Cheh, then-Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee, and Comcast lobbyist David Wilmot. Also making an appearance is Langston’s golf pro Jimmy Garvin, who the attorney general says took part in Thomas’ scheme to redirect city funds and is now cooperating with authorities.

The attorney general’s office says Thomas used the event as a fundraiser, and took in at least $22,000 in the weeks before and after the event. Team Thomas’ cost for the event, judging from bank records, includes $1,000 for a caterer, and possibly as much as $1,592 for t-shirts and apparel.

Last fall Thomas wouldn’t say whether Comcast, which produced the above video, had donated to Team Thomas. Turns out it was the biggest donor, giving $10,000 on June 18, 2008.
