News broke this morning that former Mayor Adrian Fenty is joining a medical malpractice law firm. Part of responsibilities of the new gig must include a brief media blitz, which is why NBC’s Tom Sherwood just happened to find the “tan, rested and relaxed” Fenty leaving lunch at The Palm with the boss of his new law firm.
Sherwood asked Fenty several times if he was done for good with electoral politics. Fenty said the answer he gave the day after last year’s primary—yes—remains the same.
“I am, the answer is yes,” says Fenty. “I had a great run, ten years in office, twelve years in city hall, I’m just so appreciative of the opportunity to serve the people.”
Fenty also told Sherwood that he’s been keeping a low profile, District-politics-wise, on purpose:
“One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that the best thing you can do when you leave office is give the new administration to get things done and stay out of their way, and that’s what I’ve been trying to do.”
