Word from The Examiner is that the Office of Campaign Finance is now looking into why free rides provided by taxi drivers to Vince Gray supporters last campaign season were not reported by the Gray campaign as in-kind donations. The OCF began an audit of the mayor’s campaign finances in April, after l’affaire Sulaimon blew up.

It’s probably worth noting that the write-in Fenty campaign wrote a letter to OCF back in October asking them to investigate the free cab rides. The write-in folks also secretly recorded a video (see below) of a cab driver saying he was giving “free rides for Vince Gray vote.”

Josh Lopez, a write-in campaign organizer, said OCF ignored his group’s request to investigate. (OCF did, however, fine the write-in campaign $18,500 for alleged campaign rule violations.)

LL has a question into OCF’s spokesman, and will update as needed.
