Good afternoon sweet readers! Oh irony. Labor Day has increased the labor LL has to do today. News time:
Quit Watching Me!: More changes are in store for former Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee‘s teacher evaluation tool, IMPACT. Good teachers will no longer have to be observed by principals or “master educators” quite as often. “The 290 teachers who received ‘highly effective’ ratings for the past two years and who earn an average of 3.5 on their first two evaluations this fall will have the option to waive the three remaining observations,” the Examiner reports. Sounds reasonable enough. LL’s bosses quit reading his copy after giving him a score of -5. Noteworthy: Washington Teachers’ Union President Nathan Saunders said he would “like to take credit” for the change, which he believes the 4,100 teachers he represents will receive well.
AFTER THE JUMP: Investigate the Lotto Contract!; Who Will Tell Us To Evacuate?; Help Wanted…
Investigate the Lotto: Pity the Post editorial board, which has taken to quoting itself in its bid to get someone, anyone, with subpoena power to investigate how the D.C. Council awarded the D.C. Lottery Contract.
Get The Hell Off the Beach: Who has the authority to evacuate the District? No one. (which is why you should rely on your own damn judgment.)
Help Wanted: LL heard from two Wilson Building sources Friday that Councilmember Vincent Orange poopcanned some of Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr.’s former committee staff.
In Other News:
- Jonetta being called names for suggesting black middle class parents need to be more assertive in promoting neighborhood schools.
- Former aide to Councilmember David Catania wants to sell pot.
- Jaffe inconsistent, says LDP.
- Using constituent service funds to give to political clubs for non-political aims is a-okay, says OCF.
