Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans was roasted last night in the basement of the Four Seasons Hotel. The comedy wasn’t really LL’s cup of tea, but NBC 4’s Tom Sherwood got some big laughs by making fun of the city’s elected officials.

Some zingers:

Sherwood scolded Evans for recently saying that the current council is the worst he’s seen in twenty years, saying that’s no way to make himself popular among his colleagues. “Pretty soon you’ll be Tommy Wells,” says Sherwood.

Sherwood also noted that Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham couldn’t make it, and then offered Evans an envelope full of cash on behalf of Graham’s former chief of staff, Ted Loza. (CORRECTION: This post originally quoted Sherwood saying the cash was from Graham and his staff.) “Ted Loza wanted me to give you this little—just a little something something, you know, nothing important, you don’t have to report it if you don’t want to,” Sherwood said.

Continuing with the prop comedy routine, Sherwood said “speaking of worthless, Mayor Gray’s not here.” He then took off a “wire” he’d been wearing and explained that the joke was was worthless, given the mayor’s absence.

Says Sherwood: “We could solve all of Kwame’s problems if we give him three inch heels. And then maybe he’ll be just tall enough to look into his brother Che’s eyes and say ‘What the hell did you do with that $200,000?'”
