A D.C. law firm says Republican presidential hopeful Jon Huntsman‘s campaign skipped out on a lease and owes more than $41,000 in rent.

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe sued Huntsman’s campaign last month in D.C. Superior Court. The firm says in the complaint that Huntsman’s campaign signed a one-year lease in May to use office space on the ninth floor of the firm’s 15th Street NW digs. Cost per month: a cool $8,356.83.

Alas, the marriage wasn’t meant to last. According the the lawsuit, the campaign had stopped paying rent by August and ditched the space entirely, without giving Orrick notice, by mid-September. (Which is about when Huntsman began relocating his entire campaign apparatus to New Hampshire, where he finished third in the primary this week.)

The firm says it’s asked for payment from the Huntsman campaign but hasn’t heard back. It’s asking that the campaign pay $41,784.15 to cover the rent from August through December, plus late charges and attorney fees.

The campaign has not filed a response to the lawsuit so far. Huntsman spokesman Tim Miller says he’s looking into it. LL will update if he hears back.

UPDATE: Miller responds: “This is a misunderstanding, both parties are currently working on an agreement.” LL is still waiting to hear back from Orrick’s attorney.
