For the 100 percent of LL’s readers who didn’t listen to Rush Limbaugh‘s show today, you missed hearing the conservative firebrand express his disdain for the District’s own Ward 3 Councilmember Mary Cheh.
The target of Limbaugh’s ire: Cheh’s silly wildlife protection act, which requires exterminators to avoid inflicting “unnecessary discomfort, behavioral stress, or physical harm” when trapping animals. Limbaugh glommed on to Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli‘s assertion that Cheh’s 2010 bill, coupled with the explosion of rats apparently enjoying the Occupy D.C. protests at McPherson Square, could lead to an outbreak of rats being “relocated” to Virginia.
The law has doesn’t apply to “commensal rodents” like rats and mice. But Cuccinelli’s office argues that rice rats and deer mice are covered. At any rate, here’s Limbaugh elevating the discourse:
“Mary Cheh, DC Council, is all for this new law. A tenured professor of constitutional law at George Washington University. What a shock!
…
This Mary Cheh babe, C-h-e-h, is the woman behind the DC plastic bag tax which requires Washington, DC, stores to charge a nickel for every plastic bag that a customer uses. This is what happens, folks, when these liberals get in power. That’s why I’ve maintained for as long as I’ve been doing this program, it’s all about ideology. If you understand, if you can just come to grips with who liberals are, the rest is easy. It’s easy, and everything makes sense once you come to grips with once you have the maturity to admit — what and who liberals are. But the more people who continue to remain in the dark, the better for me. You can’t enlighten people who already know.”
Aww man. Cue the sad trombone for Ward 6 Councilmartyr Saint Tommy Wells, the lead proponent of the District’s bag tax. Maybe you’ll get a Rush shout out next time, Tommy.
As for Cheh, she says all her bill does is require exterminators to deal with pests in a “humane way.” And she says she’s not offended by anything Limbaugh says, even the “babe” comment, because she has difficulty taking him seriously.
“It’s hard to be offended by someone you have no respect for,” says Cheh.
